Until recently, the only option for treating tired, sagging skin was usually a facelift. But nowadays there is an alternative to this, a kind of "facelift light": thread lifting. The treatment is minimally invasive, non-surgical and requires no incisions. With a duration of less than an hour, it also belongs to the so-called "lunchtime procedures", i.e. treatments that can be easily performed during the lunch break. In this article you will learn when a thread lift makes sense, how the treatment works and what else you need to consider.
"Facelift Light"
The designation as a light version of the facelift comes from the fact that a thread lift is basically used for the same external accompanying symptoms, but not for more acute cases. If the connective tissue of the skin has lost its firmness over the years due to aging processes, sunlight or other environmental influences, a thread lift can be used to specifically combat this. It is used in different parts of the face and body:
- Area of the Nasolabial fold
- Corner of the mouth
- Hanging cheeks
- drooping eyebrows
- Laugh lines and wrinkles around the eyes
- Wrinkles on the neck, décolleté and other body regions such as arms, abdomen or buttocks
- Compensate for volume losses
A thread lift can be performed on practically everyone without further ado. For people with severe acne or hypersensitivity to thread material, we clarify in advance whether a treatment makes sense or whether there are alternatives that are more suitable These and other questions we always discuss together with our patients in the free consultation.
Threads that work wonders
Thread lifting gives the skin a firmer and fresher appearance. After the area to be treated has been locally anesthetized, small threads are inserted into the skin with a micro-needle. When the needle is removed, the threads remain in the skin and, together with the collagen and elastic tissue, form an invisible support structure beneath the skin's surface. Depending on the treated area and the individual treatment goal, various threads are used, such as small barbs or spirals. Finally, the skin in the treated area is gently massaged and cooled.
The threads used are completely broken down ("reabsorbed") by the body over the course of a few months. This also stimulates collagen formation, which in turn ensures that the skin not only becomes firmer after treatment, but also gains volume and elasticity.
After thread lifting you are immediately socially fit again, because there are neither scars nor an artificial appearance. The first lifting effects are visible immediately after the treatment and the full effect unfolds after two to three weeks. After that, the rejuvenation effect usually lasts between 18 and 24 months.
Good to know
In order to be ideally prepared for a thread lift, one must pay attention to two points in particular: do not take aspirin or other blood-thinning medication in the week before the treatment and do not consume alcohol the day before. Since this is a non-surgical treatment, the risks are extremely minimal. Only very rarely there are small bruises, which disappear after only a few days. For the time after the treatment, patients should refrain from certain activities, such as going to the solarium, for a while. We give our patients various instructions and recommendations for the time before and after the treatment.
