MANY SMALL, FINE NEEDLES

Microneedling

It comes from the USA and has been hype for quite some time: microneedling. But what exactly is behind the trend that so many celebrities are raving about? If you take the name apart and analyze it more closely, you can guess that somehow little needles are involved. What exactly is meant by microneedling, when such a treatment comes into question and what else there is to know, we explain to you in this article. The most important thing in advance: it leads to youthful, fresh skin.

Small, fine needles

Microneedling is a treatment in which a derma pen is used to insert a large number of tiny needles into the epidermis (the top layer of skin). This irritates the epidermis so much that the skin sends a signal to the body that it has been injured. This causes a reaction in the body: in order to "heal" the injury, the cells produce more collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid. The collagen ensures that the connective tissue is strengthened, the elastin enables greater elasticity, and the raised hyaluronic acid level leads to better moisture retention in the skin. The interaction of these three leads to the skin looking firmer, tighter and younger.

Is microneedling also suitable in my case?

Microneedling is suitable for practically everyone. A treatment can both keep a still young skin fresh and eliminate cases of problem skin. In other words, at the first signs of wrinkles, sallow facial skin, sagging connective tissue and other undesirable side effects such as pigmentation marks, stretch marks or stretch marks, microneedling provides lasting results. In certain cases, scars or acne scars can also be treated. In general, we do not recommend microneedling treatment for people with acute acne, sensitive skin types, inflammations or wounds. In the cases we are happy to advise interested parties free of charge on the alternatives.

And what else?

In order to minimize the risks, we do not recommend performing microneedling at home by yourself. If the treatment is performed by an expert, hygienic standards can be maintained in any case, which in turn reduces the risk of inflammation to practically zero. Immediately after the treatment, the skin is slightly red and may burn/wet very slightly. This is a completely natural reaction and disappears after a few days. In addition, the skin swells very slightly, which already leads to a firmer and plumper skin appearance. In the weeks that follow, the full effect of the treatment unfolds and the skin becomes finer. Because that's when the collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid start to take effect.

We always advise our patients not to touch the treated area for up to one hour after the treatment. Since the skin is particularly receptive to nourishing active ingredients after microneedling, thorough skin care with moisturizer is especially worthwhile. In the first week after the treatment, care should also be taken to ensure good protection from the sun, i.e.: no visits to the solarium and a sun cream with a high sun protection factor.
