AWAY WITH THE ANNOYING WRINKLE

4 remedies for nasolabial folds

No one really finds it beautiful, the nasolabial fold. Often it is even called a "cummerfold" - but the name is actually rather inappropriate. One of the reasons for the formation of wrinkles is frequent laughter and the resulting activation of the muscles. In this article, we will explain to you the other reasons for the nasolabial fold, how you can most effectively prevent its formation and what alternatives there are for combating the annoying wrinkle.

Origin

The nasolabial fold belongs, like the Frown line between the eyebrows, to the expression lines. It appears between the wing of the nose and the corner of the mouth and in some cases extends to the chin area. As with frown lines and other wrinkles, age is one of the main causes of nasolabial folds. In our 20s, the body's own production of Hyaluronic acid decreases. And as hyaluronic acid binds water in the skin and thus provides it with moisture and fullness, sooner or later the reduced production will leave visible traces. Over time, the skin also loses the protein collagen and elastic fibers. But not all causes are natural. The formation of wrinkles can be accelerated by many factors that we can control ourselves: Frequent unprotected sunbathing, smoking, regular alcohol consumption and severe weight fluctuation cause nasolabial folds to form even earlier and more severely. As is so often the case, a healthy and balanced lifestyle prevents the formation of wrinkles, but can delay them for years. This includes good sun protection, sufficient sleep and a healthy diet.

Treatment

However, even with a healthy lifestyle, the first wrinkles will appear at some point. When they do, you have different options to choose from to fight them, depending on how pronounced the wrinkle is. Here are 4 ways to fight the nasolabial fold:

1. hyaluronic creams

As is so often the case with wrinkles, can Hyaluron creams help to moisturize the skin, making it glow plump and smooth - especially those creams that contain hyaluronic acid. In this way, a slight gain in volume and a fresh complexion can definitely be achieved in the short term. In addition to the short duration of effect, however, it must be noted that too frequent use of the creams creates a certain dependence. Because the more often the cream is applied to the skin, the more the callus swells - which in turn leads to dry skin. And there it is often tempting to counteract this with moisturizing creams... So with hyaluronic creams the following applies: Beware of the vicious circle!

2. massage

The nasolabial fold cannot be "massaged away", but the aging process of the skin can be slowed down. This is because "kneading" the skin ensures that it is better supplied with blood - which is essential for the fresh look. There are various techniques for this, including massaging with your own hands or fingers or with a Jade Roller.

3. make up

If the wrinkle is not yet too pronounced, makeup can do a lot. A good foundation, in particular, can do a lot of magic when applied correctly. If it is also moisturizing, all the better. In addition, there are other "little helpers" such as primers and concealers that can enhance the freshness effect. This is where the effect of the gloss articles comes into play, which diffuse the light and thus soften the face.

4. filler treatment with hyaluron

If the nasolabial fold is already relatively pronounced, we recommend a Filler treatment with hyaluron. The naturally degradable substance improves the body's own budget and smoothes wrinkles. The skin appears fresher, plumper and overall younger. Here you will learn more about the difference between botulinum toxin and hyaluronic acid and about cases where a combination of both makes sense.

There are two options for the filler treatment of the nasolabial fold: Either the wrinkle is injected directly at the site with hyaluron or, according to Dr. Mauricio de Maio's method, indirectly, at four different 4 points on the face - at so-called "MD codes" (more on MD codes here).

The big difference between Botox and other methods is of course the price. However, if you consider that the results after one treatment last for several months and the wrinkles are also clearly and recognizably combated, the filler treatment quickly proves to be a sensible investment.

Different treatment depending on the initial situation and desired result

To sum up: If the nasolabial fold is not yet too pronounced, simple alternatives such as hyaluronic creams, makeup and massaging are often enough to combat the wrinkle and provide a fresh effect. However, if the wrinkle is already a little deeper, it is worth going for filler treatment. The procedure is non-surgical and painless, takes only 30 minutes and provides results that last for several months.
